Gobius kolombatovici

Synonyms: none.

Length: 9 - 11 cm.

Pale to fawn with orange irregular spots arranged in rows, underside pale. Nine dark orange blotches along midline. 3 rows of light orange spots along the body. Head with light orange to yellow spots. D1 with black blotch in upper posterior corner (not in juveniles). A special Y-formed blotch on the nape, behind the eyes (not in Thorgobius macrolepis).

Snout longer than eye, anterior nostril short. Eyes dorsolateral, relatively small. Praedorsal area and nape scaled.
52-57 scales in lateral series.
Fins: D1 VI; D2 I+14 (13-14); A I+13; P 18 (17-19).

15 - 91 m. Soft sediments with rocks and at basis of rock walls. Laying close to its shelter.

General info


Mediterranean; northern Adriatic Sea and north-western Mediterranean Sea. 2008 it was also found in depths between 45 and 91 m in the South Thyrrenian Sea (see 'Photographs') and in the Ionian Sea at 50 m by Simonepietro Canese. 2016 (Engin et al.) at Komur (Turkey).
